TechAway is a project developed by students from Violet Way Academy. The purpose of the project is to encourage the local community to recycle their old technology.
We are asking people to drop their old desktops (no monitors), laptops and tablet devices in to the recycle bin provided in the school reception between 1st January - 15th February 2019.
Devices handed in will be digitally wiped in line with accepted industry standards and recycled for a variety of uses around the world.
Why Should You Hand in Your Old Technology?
Staying Safe - By recycling your old devices with Tech Away you can rest assured that all your personal data will be wiped following industry standards thereby eliminating the risk of your personal details falling into the wrong hands.
Reducing Pollution - The increasing number of old devices being thrown away is contributing to the growing need for more and more landfill sites, all of which has a huge impact on the growing pollution issues the world faces today.
Supporting Your School - By recycling your devices with Tech Away you will be supporting the school to deliver more projects involving new technologies and providing new opportunities for our students.
What Can I Recycle?
We are inviting people to recycle devices of any make or model in working condition up to 9 years old including:
- Desktop computers (excluding the monitor)
- We cannot accept old mobile phones
- Other items should be recycled at your local amenities site.
How Do I Recycle My Device?
Place your device in the recycling bin provided at the School reception by 15th February 2019.
Please use original packaging if available, or an alternative sealed box or bag to keep your items all together.
When recycling an item please include the power lead if available.
Who's Involved in This Programme?
The Technology Recycling programme would not be possible without the financial and operational support from Hewlett Packard (HP). The programme is linked to the HP for Education programme which supports schools to recycle their old technology in order to save money when purchasing new devices.
The Fierté Academy Trust Technology recycling programme has been facilitated by practitioners from Tablet Academy who are working alongside our teachers to make this project a reality.
As part of the Fierté Academy Trust, our school is fully supportive of this scheme as it provides new opportunities for our students to engage in real life issues whilst learning essential skills they will use in their future careers.
If you have any questions please email email@example.com or call 01952 567450 and we will endeavour to respond to any query within 24 hours.
Please note, the school reception may not have the information required to answer your questions so please contact Tablet Academy using the details provided above.
